  1. Why do I need DxO ViewPoint 1, 2, or 3 as standalone programs if I already have DxO PhotoLab 3? Why can I process fewer photos simultaneously in DxO PhotoLab 3 than I could in previous versions? How do I transfer my custom presets from earlier versions of DxO OpticsPro to DxO PhotoLab 3?
  2. I'm using three RAW converters: Capture One 20; Lightroom classic 9 and DxO Photolab 3. I don't use Capture One much because I just don't like the colors. No matter what I do I can't recreate the same colors I can get from Lightorom or DxO but that's another story. Anyhow; I agree with you.
  3. Today, DxO launched PhotoLab 3, the much-anticipated upgrade to PhotoLab 2. In this video, I look at what's new as well as the different pricing options for.

DXO Photolab on Linux! (almost, kindof, notreally but maybe a little bit)
Hi all, Linux+wine can now run DXO photolab! (a bit at least)
I posted here: Move to .net Core? - DxO PhotoLab Windows - DxO Forums
.but will add the rough how-to here description here as well:
  1. Install winehq-staging (version 5.2) and the 191224 winetricks
  2. Install .net 4.8 and d3dcompiler_47 using winetricks
  3. Change windows version to win10 (with winecfg)
  4. Run dxo photolab 3 installer (with wine64)
  5. Change windows version to win7 (with winecfg)
  6. Try to run photolab a few times (doesn't seem to work at first) (with wine64)

…then I can run Photolab 3 under Linux!
So far I think it uses CPU only so it's kind of slow but I will try different direct x variants…dxvk seems to crash it for me, but will try variants of OS setting, net version and direct x drivers installed with winetricks.
I also managed to get DXO Optics Pro 11 to work in a similar way. Worth noting is that when using a 'dirty' wineprefix where I had played around with different directx/dxvk didn't work so use a clean new one.
Also the system and drivers might be a factor, I use kubuntu 19.10, have a nvidia 1070 with the 330 driver and an intel skylake CPU (6700k, yeah yeah I'll upgrade with the next ryzen generation, last one was fine but no ssd vendors really used pcie4 to its full extent so waiting for the next one).
Please let me know if you try it and find simpler or better ways (with GPU/direct x working) to make it work!

Interesting. I gave up on that stuff years ago since it's just asking for problems.might break during an upgrade, that kind of thing. You can run a Windows VM and still launch DXO as an app. There's also native apps that work with RAW files. Good luck!

That's cool and interesting in a science experiment way. But I think for day-to-day RAW editing in Linux Rawtherapee or Darktable are more practical.

Thanks! Yes the risk of breaking exists but I don't think I've ever encountered it with wine in almost a decade, usually goes the other way from not working to working =). Anyway, yes a VM works but not as well as native windows (performance wise) so I've kept dual boot for that but would like to get rid of it, if I can get the wine version to use the gpu (it seems).

Well the install is a bit much, but once you have a 'recipe' like the above it only takes 10-20 min depending on how 'wine/linux-fluent' you are, but after that it's as easy as running it native.
But regarding day-to-day, that was my main point for going with DXO, for a high throughput (images/second and/or clicks/image required) in a 'simple' workflow where most images only require crop+whitebalance+exposure+contrast+shadows/highlights+(auto)noise, from what I've tried DT and RT are miles behind! Just clicking around and scrolling in the gui itself almost doubles the work/time required, otherwise I'd have switched in a heartbeat!

I think it's all in what you're used to and how much you want to automate. I made the switch from Lightroom to RawTherapee something like a couple years ago. It was difficult retraining myself, but now I can do all those basic edits you talk about very quickly.

The latest darktable release has a one-click auto adjust setting that does a serviceable job. And you still have all the other mofules if you want to tweak further.
